I am leaving soon for a 3-day quilt retreat with one of my quilt guilds. I am not the kind of person who decides to make a quilt, collects the fabric and starts right in, working until it is done. I usually cut some blocks in a shape I like, or a block I have seen that looks interesting and maybe make a few more, or combine it with something else, waiting for a creative spark.
So for me, the hardest decision is what project(s) to take to the retreat. I had bought this pattern called Girl Next Door by Louise Papas a while ago, and decided to give it a try.

I had made one block when I bought the pattern, shown here. So I decided I would work on these house blocks. There are 24 of them, plus 4 school buildings in the outside border.

I have just spent one whole day cutting out the blocks for these houses. Yikes! This calls for a lot of organization!

I have two back up projects that I will be bringing along as well, in case I get tired of this! I have cut a lot of pieces to make half square triangles and drunkard’s path blocks from my stash of Cherrywood fabric and will be stitching some of these together. No real plans for these blocks, but the fun for me is thinking of the possibilities.

Below is the second “extra” project I will be taking. I had started cutting and sewing blocks to make a Luminary Quilt, pattern by Jamie Bright, but wasn’t thrilled with how it was turning out. But I do love these pieces I have made, and will make more. Not sure where this is going either!

I’ll post an update on my progress when I get back.
