Fun Memories

I was at my local quilt guild (Etobicoke Quilters Guild) the other evening, and the speaker was Paul Leger. During his presentation, he started talking about me! I put my hand up, and he was delighted to meet me, and insisted on a photo of the two of us.

When I was running Quilts at the Creek (2012 – 2019) I had two missions: one was to expose non-quilters to quilts. Lots of families go to Black Creek Pioneer Village at the edge of Toronto, and here was a way for them to be exposed to 300 quilts, in a beautiful setting. My other aim was to showcase local and Canadian quilters. The theme of the 2017 show was Canada’s 150th anniversary, so I wrote to a few people whose work I admired, and asked if (a) they would consider making a red and white quilt and (b) donate it to Quilts of Valour at the end of the show. Paul Leger was one of those people who accepted the challenge, and he made this wonderful quilt.. photo taken in my backyard before the show.

It was great catching up with him.. and in case you are wondering he did donate his quilt to Quilts of Valour. He re-made the quilt so he could show it when he gave talks. My request really challenged him and the result was stunning. Such a great memory!
