Laura Heine quilt

I remember a few years ago when Laura Heine quilts took the world by storm. They look terrific, and use raw edge appliqué. Sounded great to me! I soon bought two kits myself, but was worried that once I started working on them, they would take over my quilting space for a very long time, and I didn’t quite feel up to it! The kits I had purchased are pictured below.. the squirrel and the moose.

I did watch a youTube video by Karen Brown of Just Get it Done Quilts, where she finished off the same squirrel quilt that is waiting patiently for me. She got hers done (with a 6 year pause in construction!). I am not sure if this inspired or frightened me!

My sister made this one with one of her granddaughters.

.. and some sewing related quilts I was drawn to..

Finally, I have a special fondness for octopi since reading Remarkably Bright People by Shelby van Pelt

At Quilt Canada this June I took the plunge, and bought a kit that seemed doable. It was from a local company, Artistic Quilts with Colour.

This is a smaller quilt, so I felt it was a great place to test the waters.

And my version…I thought he deserved a brighter background, with tropical flowers.

Well, I feel this size quilt is more my style: because of the smaller size I could get it done fairly quickly. It was a fun project. Will I make more?

Funny you should ask.. I purchased this kit, and am planning to make the haunted house. These are again smaller quilts so maybe it will even be done before Halloween!

Wish me luck!
